Houston Eating: Bite Macarons

Sunday, September 14, 2014

I'll be honest, my New York apartment was far from glamorous. The two bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, and living room could all fit comfortably into my current living room and there was a particularly ferocious squirrel whose full time job included shrieking at my window every morning. But it was almost worth it for the location. There were at least 10 restaurants on my block alone, and a lovely macaron shop just across the street. I made many a trip running the 5 steps across the road in my pajamas and a coat to pay copious amounts of money for a tiny cookie of heaven.

Ever since I moved back to Texas I've been craving those macarons. So, knowing that Houston hosts some of the best food places in the country, I went on a hunt for a good macaron shop. I found several recommendations for Bite Macarons and decided try them for myself.

The first thing I noticed when I walked into Bite were the rows of colorful cookies all lined up under the transparent counter. A lovely girl greeted me as I walked in and waited patiently as I pressed my nose against the glass and tried to pick six macarons out of all the delicious options. In the end, I chose chocolate, coffee, raspberry, lavender and honey, salted caramel, and rose. They were all delicious, but the raspberry was my favorite.

All in all, Bite was a great (if expensive) little treat!
