I grew up in a neighborhood straight out of a story. We kids ran amuck in the summer, neighbors helped each other out without being asked, everyone waved at each other when they pass by, and there were a lot of traditions.

Christmas Eve is a neighborhood event. Everyone gathers by the water, Christmas carols are sung, hot drinks brewed and consumed. And then there are the luminarias. Every year, on Christmas eve, every house in the neighborhood sets out paper lanterns and they line the streets for the last magical hours before Christmas day.
