Down to the Sea

I need the ocean. Our murky, muddy, mysterious waters in the Gulf have always held me in thrall. As a child I built sand castles on the dunes, chased crabs out of their holes, and held tight to my father's hand as he guided me into the deep water. I lived for those moments. The wave comes in and lifts you right off your feet. It's as close as a human can come to being a feather, buffeted about by the changing winds.

Now that I'm older I reach for the ocean in times of turbulence, seeking inspiration and calm in equal measure. I usually find at least one, although not always the one I was hoping for.
