About Me

Hi! And welcome to my blog. My name is Christine and I'm a native Texan who left her home state at 18 seeking an adventure. I found one, and then some, first in New York City where I attended NYU's Gallatin School, then in Florence, Italy where I spent a year and a half living and studying abroad.

That's really where this particular story starts: in Florence. Sail Away was originally created to be a follow-on project for my Gilman Scholarship. I recorded the first year of my experiences in Italy in a weekly series of (excruciatingly embarrassing) blog posts. If you're interested in reading those, it all starts with this one. That year and a half was a whirl-wind of language learning, living in home stays, and traveling around Europe. I wanted to stay forever. No matter how far away I am, there's a piece of me that will always consider Florence home.

After finishing my degree at NYU, I'm finally back in Texas (for the present). Although this blog started as a travel journal of sorts, it has evolved to encompass a more eclectic array of my interests. I share everything from gardening and food to design work and city excursions, and of course I still travel every chance I get and record those experiences here as well.
